Sinclair Emoghene is a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theatre and Dance at the University of Texas at Austin.
In this project, Sinclair reimagines his dance practice through the lens of what he calls “story-making.” He tells his personal stories through the act of “remembering.” As an immigrant in the U.S. for the past eleven years, Sinclair has struggled with building new memories. Instead of merely recounting past experiences, he envisions the creation of new stories as an essential part of his artistic journey. Through this research, he choreographs dance, writes about his experiences, and performs with robotics to craft a new yet familiar portrait of his evolving identity during these transitional years.
Sinclair lives and works in Austin, Texas, where he maintains a daily dance practice. When not dancing, he is fully immersed in developing his broader research initiative, The Global Movement Research, which he envisions as a hub for exploring human movement through dance.
During the week, when he isn’t cooking his favorite dishes, Sinclair enjoys watching films, curating for the internationally recognized Dance Filmmakers Platform, or social dancing on the weekends.
Sinclair is passionate about teaching. Although it is a key aspect of his role at the university, he approaches teaching as a sacred process that ignites his ability to transmit both embodied and intellectual knowledge. He is equally committed to engaging in active learning from his students, fostering a dynamic and reciprocal educational experience.
